Kanawha County


John James graduated from Capital High School in 1992. He was awarded a Football scholarship to Fairmont State. Eventually he returned to his roots and graduated from West Virginia State University with a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice.  He started his career working for the Bannum Place of Charleston Federal Halfway house as a Counselor. His first experience working with youth was at the Davis Child Shelter as a Family Support Counselor. It was then he realized he wanted to further his career working with the youth. After a short time working at the Davis Child Shelter he began working for the Action Youth Care as a Family Service Specialist doing Social Work. In 2004, he started working for Division of Juvenile Service employee as a Correctional Counselor II at Donald R. Kuhn Juvenile Center in Julian WV. After a short time he was promoted to Case Manager. In 2006, he started working for Kanawha County Youth Reporting Center as a Case Manager. In 2014, he became the Director of the Kanawha County Youth Reporting Center. He has always had a passion for helping others or assisting them with reaching their goals. He accredits this to all those who helped him along the way. When not working he enjoys coaching Little League Football, fishing, cooking and spoken word poetry.
